#WeAreY is a Joyful Celebration of Achievement, Demonstrates How YMCA Meets Modern Health and Fitness Lifestyle Needs

Elected officials, representatives from the YMCA of Greater New York, Brooklyn Voters Alliance, DemocracyNYC, NALEO Educational Fund, and the League of Women Voters gathered on Tuesday morning for a press event at the McBurney YMCA in order to highlight voter eligibility, voter registration, and civic responsibility. 

To be housed at the Flatbush YMCA branch, this Center will be the organization’s seventh New Americans Welcome Center, an initiative to help immigrants thrive in New York City.

The YMCA of Greater New York’s New Americans Initiative will join Welcoming America and hundreds of YMCAs and other organizations nationwide in hosting events to celebrate immigrants’ contributions to communities and bring together all residents in a spirit of unity. 

To celebrate the YMCA’s annual Properties Service Day on September 12 and 13, volunteers from the YMCA and NYC °CoolRoofs worked together to apply a white, reflective coating to the roofs of the YMCA’s North Brooklyn and Cross Island branches. 

The Dodge Award is given annually to outstanding individuals who epitomize the Dodge family’s 165-year-old tradition of humanitarian service.

A combined crowd of almost 500 community members, volunteers, local elected officials, YMCA Board members and staff, past and present Y clients and their families came out to support the event.
