Gear up for your first day

Get ready for your first day! You should have received an email from our Human Resources department with your first-day agenda. This includes important details such as time, location, dress code, parking information, and other key instructions. Please review the agenda carefully and ensure you have everything you need for a smooth start. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to your manager or our HR department at talentacquisition@ymcanyc.org.

  1. Look out for the first day agenda in your email.
  2. Prepare your questions and expectations: Think about what you want to learn, achieve, and contribute in your new role.
  3. Pack essentials like a notebook, pen, water bottle, and snacks.
  4. Plan to arrive 15 minutes early and dress appropriately.

  1. What is the dress code? The dress code varies by department and your role. Generally, business casual attire is appropriate. Please refer to the specific guidelines provided in your welcome packet or contact HR for more details.
  2. What time should I arrive? Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of the orientation events. This will give you ample time to settle in and prepare for the day ahead.
  3. Who should I report to on my first day? You will initially report to the HR department, and subsequently, you will meet with your direct manager. Please refer to the details in the email from HR regarding the exact location and time.
  4. What documents should I bring? Please bring the following documents: 
    a. I-9 recommended forms (ID, Passport, Resident Card, etc.) 
    b. Social Security Card 
    c. For PAYROLL DIRECT DEPOSIT - please bring a voided check, a photocopy of a voided check, or a letter from your bank confirming your account details.
  5. Will I receive an employee handbook? Yes, you will receive an employee handbook via email on Day 1 of your orientation. It includes key policies, procedures, and cultural insights.
  6. Are there opportunities for career advancement? Absolutely. We encourage professional growth and offer various career advancement opportunities based on performance and company needs.
  7. Can I use the YMCA facilities for personal fitness and wellness? Yes, employees have access to the YMCA facilities and are encouraged to utilize them for their personal health and wellness.
