The Greenpoint Y Early Childhood Center
Ages 2-5 years
The Early Childhood Center at the Polish & Slavic Center focuses on the developmental needs of each child to foster intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth. Using play-based learning techniques, children can explore the environment as they experiment with hands-on activities. Learning takes place daily in science, math, literacy, dramatic play, art, and sensory centers.
Physical development is a significant component addressed through swim lessons (for those 3 and up), yoga, structured gym activities, free play, and trips to local parks. Children are encouraged to move throughout the day as they become more and more confident in their motor control.
Our dedicated staff is trained using the latest research in early childhood education which is applied in our daily lessons. The role of the teachers is to guide the children’s collaboration with peers and to provoke creative thinking.
Our program runs Monday-Friday from 8 AM-6 PM. The program follows the Department of Education calendar.

Our curriculum is designed to promote the growth and development of the “whole child.” We believe in an active learning method curriculum in which teaching strives to involve students in the learning process more directly and where the motivation to learn is authentic. The program focuses on the social-emotional, cognitive, and physical development of each child as an individual and with a group. This program is intended to serve as a gateway to preschool. Our ultimate goal is that each child has a positive first school experience.
Program includes classes in yoga, dance, music, art/science and specialty class with Louis Miranda, the Music Man.
Y family member: $350
