Frequently Asked Questions
General Info
Why are you not bringing back facility membership (fitness center with equipment)?
Our goal is to develop a sustainable model that meets the health, fitness, and educational needs of our community, and we're hopeful that our current mix of programming and services is enabling us to do just that.
We are piloting this new model, so that we can determine if it’s a good fit for the Ridgewood community.
I’m a sustaining member at the Ridgewood YMCA. What does this mean for me?
Thank you so much for your support of our branch – and our community – at this critical time. In recognition of your long-standing support as a sustaining member, we are pleased to continue to offer you
- Access to all 20 YMCA branches in New York City that have resumed membership services.
- Free access to all group fitness classes at the Ridgewood Y.
Are you charging for fitness classes?
Yes, our branch offers group fitness classes for adults. For the first two weeks (June 17-30), you can register for free online or at the branch. Beginning July 1, you can purchase and register for as many or as few classes as you want each month. The more classes you take, the more you save!
Will I be able to reinstate my membership and take part of the group fitness classes?
No, our branch is not offering new facility memberships at this time. Instead, program members will purchase and register for classes each month.
I have Silver Sneakers/Renew Active. Can I take the Group Fitness classes?
Yes, you may register for the Group Fitness classes at no charge. Our system will recognize you as having Silver Sneakers/Renew Active, and there will be no charge for you to register.
I am a current member at another branch. May I use my guest away visit to take part in the group fitness classes being offered at your branch?
Our branch does not currently offer the Guest Pass option for members of other branches. You are welcome to purchase and register for individual group fitness classes. And, each season, we will be having special promotions.
Will financial assistance be available?
Yes, we will have financial assistance available for our Group Fitness Program. Please contact your branch for more details.

You may visit our website and/or stop by our branch to register in-person.
I can’t register online; may I do it at the branch? Will there still be space if I wait to come to the branch?

Cancellations/ Refunds
How far in advance can I cancel a class reservation? And if I don’t show up to a reservation will there be a penalty?
We ask that you cancel 48 to 24 hours in advance, by either calling or emailing the branch. Yes. The class will be forfeited. If we are contacted in advance, you will receive a credit that must be used within 60 days of being issued.
