The Park Slope Armory YMCA is seeking a Teen Coordinator who, under the supervision of the Youth & Family Director, will assist in the management and supervision to all core programming for the teens population for the Park Slope Armory YMCA with support from part-time teen counselors. Responsibilities include assisting the in the management of staff, program development, community development as well as the creation of recruitment and retention plan for Teens.  The incumbent is charged with the responsibility of implementing YMCA, YMCA OF GREATER NY Association, and DYCD short and long range goals. The Teen Coordinator is to implement and follow all the YMCA of Greater New York Teen, Youth & Family and Teen Program Standards. Support in the recruitment and retention of all teens.   

Program Portfolio: Leaders Club, Teens Take the City, Saturday Night Lights, and Teen Center. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the health, safety and well-being of children in the program by providing close supervision of all activities. 
  • Responsible for supporting the Youth & Family Director in the creation and submission of all teen data. 
  • Manage administrative data entry in various systems including Youth Service.NET, coordination of participant paperwork, conducting program surveys, and all other requirements outlined by City agencies and in the YMCA’s Teen Standards and Program Charts of Work.
  • Planning, coordination, and implementation of program registration, program workshops, and special events with support from part-time teen counselors. 
  • Assist in the marketing and distribution of program information; help to compile program statistics.
  • Help to develop, implement, and monitor program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Establish and maintain links with service providers in a range of settings including other CBOs, schools, and partnerships.
  • Assist in fund development endeavors for the Youth & Family Department.
  • Actively participate in designated meetings, training sessions and special events.
  • Acts as the liaison to YMCA of Greater New York in regards to teen issues.
  • Provides support to the Youth & Director regarding staff management and scheduling. 
  • Plan, create and facilitate in person lesson plans for all programs. 
  • Plan, create and facilitate virtual activities as needed using (name of online platform; i.e., Zoom/Google Classroom) as the platform.
  • Must be able to manage adolescent behavior with respect, maturity, compassion and encouragement. 
  • Develop positive relationships with the participants, their friends and family members.  
  • Ability to work cooperatively with professional staff and other departments.
  • Create remote and in person environment that is diverse, culturally sensitive and relevant to the needs of teens.
  • Other activities and duties as needed that address the ongoing health and well-being of our staff and members.
  • Adhere to all Department of Health, YMCA of Greater New York, and funder standards, expectations, and regulations.
  • Follow and maintain sanitary habits in accordance with CDC guidelines.

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent. College credits preferred. 
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience working with pre-teens and teens (10 and older).
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Current First Aid / CPR / AED certifications preferred.
  • General knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and (list online platform(s) used; i.e., Zoom/Google Classroom). Knowledge of Access, Adobe PageMaker and Photoshop preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, and leadership skills.
