The Northeast Bronx YMCA is seeking a Nutritionist who under the direct supervision of the Membership Director, the Nutritionist will display outstanding customer service, contribute to the success of the Association’s Weight Loss Program and Member Engagement campaign. The YMCA Nutritionist will conduct healthy, safe, fun, and effective 1-on-1 nutrition consultations and/or group nutrition classes based on the YMCA of Greater NY Healthy Lifestyles Standards.  The position carries out the Mission and Vision of the Y and adheres to the Y Values and Code of Conduct when dealing with members, staff, and volunteers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates ability to relate to and work with people of diverse backgrounds.

  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology and nutrition based on the food guide pyramid.

  • Provide a high degree of member service through a professional relationship with the members regarding their needs, concerns, and questions about the YMCA, its programs and mission.

  • Will make phone calls to members offering complimentary nutrition appointments and classes.

  • Will design safe & effective nutrition programs and diets based on personal assessment results and member goals.

  • Will meet with client for initial interview and administer required paperwork prior to commencement of nutrition consultations.

  • Meet/exceed nutrition appointment goals.

  • Properly record all nutrition appointments with clients.

  • Follow-up with clients if they are away from the Y for an extended period of time.

  • Successful completion of in-house training requirements.

  • Attend training opportunities necessary for the position.

  • Maintain required personal certifications (AED/CPR/ First Aid & CECs).

  • Responsible for being on time for scheduled nutrition session.

  • Will notify supervisor and client (24 hrs. in advance) if unable to conduct training session due to illness or emergency.

  • Appropriately dressed for work (black YMCA staff shirt with white Y logo and nametag).

  • Adherence to the YMCA of Greater NY Health & Wellness Standards and Guidelines.

  • Maintain awareness of current fitness and food trends.

  • Demonstrates ability to work cooperatively with professional staff and other departments.

  • Have a thorough knowledge of branch emergency procedures and take appropriate action for H&W Dept. emergency situations.

  • Understands and support the mission, code of conduct and values of the YMCA.


Desired Skills & Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent. 

  • Current CPR/First Aid/AED certification.           

  • Current YMCA Nationally recognized Nutrition certification or Master's level education in the Nutrition field (Fitness & Food Trends).

  • Successful completion of in-house training requirements (Armatus).

  • Continued pursuit of CEC’s & information in the nutrition & fitness field preferred.

  • Experience working with older adults preferred.
