The Flushing YMCA is seeking a Housekeeper who under the direct supervision of the Buildings & Grounds Superintendent, the Housekeeper will be responsible for cleaning and sanitizing guest rooms and assigned areas, including such duties as mopping, dusting, and trash removal.  May also be required to complete duties related to window washing, meeting set-up, pool cleaning, snow removal, grounds keeping and other related responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the Flushing YMCA is attractive and clean by completing all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintains upkeep of assigned area and equipment.  May perform wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling, window washing, pool cleaning, painting, vacuuming, seasonal activities dealing with lawn care and snow removal, and general cleaning.
  • Operates related motorized and non-motorized equipment.
  • Records and reports all needed repairs; repairs as directed.
  • Ensures the Flushing YMCA building and property is secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor.
  • Replaces soap, paper towels and other supplies.
  • May set up furniture and/or rooms for events.
  • Strip and wax floors, also shampoo rugs as needed.
  • Follow standards of DOH, DOB, FDNY, HPD and ECB Departments.
  • Follow YMCA Housekeeping Policies and Procedures.
  • Provide cleaned linens and towels to guest rooms
  • Ensure laundry of linens and towels are done.
  • Cleaning of residential rooms.
  • Other activities and duties that address the ongoing health and well-being of our staff and members.
  • Follow and maintain sanitary habits in accordance with CDC guidelines.

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of six (6) months to one (1) year of related experience.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment, along with basic understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment.
  • Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use.
