My husband started taking our daughter Nikko to the Y for group swimming classes when she was just an eight-month-old baby. Ever since, the YMCA has been an integral part of Nikko’s swimming passion. Now she’s extremely confident and competent and successful in the water, bringing a level of maturity and independence to her life.

"My husband started taking Nikko to Y swimming lessons at 8 months old. The Y puts a smile on her face. She’s healthy and active, with the pride and self-esteem that comes with feeling strong as a swimmer. The YMCA was critical to getting her there" - Lindsay Ackroyd

The Y puts a smile on her face. She has said that at the Y she likes to think about her swimming goals and her school goals, all while knowing it’s a safe place for her to play. Every day she realizes how far the Y has gotten her, and that thought makes her happy.

She’s fit and healthy and active, with the pride and self-esteem that comes with feeling strong as a swimmer. The YMCA was critical to getting her here. The Y is great for community, and that’s why people should show their support.
