The YMCA of Greater New York Association Office is seeking a Senior Accountant who will be responsible for the preparation and reporting of financial records. This includes maintaining and reconciling general ledger accounts, tracking contribution and investment activity, and preparing financial reports for both the Association and the Branches. This role plays a key part in the monthly and year-end close processes, budget development, endowment and investment reporting, and audit preparation. The Senior Accountant will also contribute to process improvements, support the implementation of new CRM and financial systems, and collaborate across departments to ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Track and reconcile contribution revenue recognition, restriction releases, and special event transactions on a monthly basis.

  • Prepare monthly investment roll-forwards and purchase/sale schedules.

  • Prepare the quarterly endowment schedule and the related financial data.

  • Prepare journal entries and reconcile general ledger and subsidiary accounts for monthly and year-end close; prepare related financial reports.

  • Coordinate with team members to research and resolve accounting issues.

  • Prepare annual budgets for assigned areas and collaborate with departments across the Association Office and branches.

  • Assist in the implementation of new financial software and systems.

  • Responsible for other accounting areas and matters assigned.


Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required. CPA is a plus.

  • Three (3) to five (5) years of non-profit accounting experience.

  • Knowledge of GAAP and non-profit accounting practices.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • ​Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel (i.e., pivot table, VLOOKUP), and database spreadsheets.

  • Experience with Oracle and Salesforce is a plus.

  • Familiarity with endowment and investment accounting is a plus.
