The YMCA of Greater New York is seeking an Employee Relations Director who will be responsible for providing expertise and support to the Association Office and branches regarding all employee relations cases, training, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert to leadership regarding conflict resolution, employee engagement, and workplace policies.

  • Independently conduct investigations into employee concerns, ensuring compliance with legal and organizational standards.

  • Ability to analyze results from investigations and confidently provide recommended next steps to leadership at the branches and the Association Office.

  • Proactively develop and implement effective employee relations strategies to cultivate a positive workplace culture.

  • Provide staff with training and resources on best practices in employee relations and conflict management.

  • Uphold association policies, demonstrate ethical behavior, and demonstrate the YMCA’s values.

  • Analyze employee feedback and performance metrics to recommend improvements to policies and practices.

  • Work with the Senior Executive of Employee Relations & Talent Acquisition, SVP, Human Resources, and external Counsel to review and approve legal position statements for presentation to the EEOC and NY Division of Human Rights.

  • Complete various projects assigned by the Senior Executive, Employee Relations & Talent Acquisition, and SVP, Human Resources.


Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or Business Administration, or comparable work experience required. SHRM certified preferred.

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in human resources, with a focus on employee relations or conflict resolution.

  • Must have excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills with strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to quickly establish productive and credible working relationships with all levels of staff.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

  • Strong commitment to “internal client” and customer service principles.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and database spreadsheets.

  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulations at local, state, and federal levels.

  • Exceptional problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and confidentiality.
