At YMCA summer day camps, children learn leadership skills and develop self confidence in a safe, accepting, and stimulating environment. They also build robots, go on field trips, shoot hoops, learn to swim, make new friends, and laugh all summer long!

Last year, the Y proudly served more than 13,000 campers in New York City, where we’ve been helping parents and their children have the best summer ever since 1885. With over 70 camp sites in the 5 boroughs, there’s bound to be a Y camp near you.

Our Promise

The Y promises to prepare kids for success in life. Summer Day Camp builds self-esteem, fosters self reliance, and teaches healthy behaviors and positive values. Because it’s different from school, kids also explore different sides of themselves. Supported by our highly skilled counselors, campers build competence and confidence while learning and growing all summer long.

Y campers stretch themselves physically and creatively. Kids play games, read, create books, and write poetry. They participate in science experiments, solve puzzles, craft art, and perform music and shows. Parents say their kids come home tired, dirty, and smiling, frequently humming a new camp cheer.

Our campers love our trips! From local walks around the community, to learning about different animals in the zoo, to fun museum trips, we keep our campers engaged all summer! We coordinate our trips with weekly themes so campers experience what they’re learning simultaneously.

All YMCA of Greater New York Day Camps are licensed by the New York City Department of Health and accredited by the American Camp Association. This means that we have passed a very strict set of standards that are geared toward assuring a healthy physical environment, positive staff/camper interactions, and strong programming. We always maintain the proper counselor-to-child ratio, and attentive, professional staff members are ready and alert to attend to campers’ needs. All our staff complete rigorous screenings to ensure we have the best team possible to support your family.

Camp Gear

Each camper will receive two shirts and a camp bag. Swim caps will be provided on the camper’s first day of swimming. Camp t-shirts must be worn every day, and additional t-shirts can be purchased from your branch. Swimmers must have a towel, swim suit, change of clothes, water shoes, and a plastic bag for wet swim gear. Campers also receive a memory book so that they can cherish the memories they make with their friends!

Financial Aid

The YMCA of Greater New York awards financial aid to campers based on the family’s annual income. Pick up a financial aid application at the branch or download an application.
