Founded in 1852, today the Y serves a diverse population of more than half a million New Yorkers who learn, grow, and thrive through programs and services at our 24 branches. Community is the cornerstone of the Y. Together, we connect active, engaged New Yorkers to build stronger communities.

To help fulfill our mission, we cultivate a culture of learning, leading, and collaboration to enhance community impact. Through our talented staff and “LEAP” career framework (Leadership, Empowerment, Accountability, Personal Growth), we are committed to a people-first approach that fosters trust, inclusion, growth, and development for all.

The North Brooklyn YMCA is seeking Group Exercise Instructors to plan and lead safe, engaging, and effective group exercise classes for members of varying fitness levels. Instructors create a welcoming and supportive class environment while delivering high-quality instruction that promotes health, confidence, and enjoyment. • Adapt exercises and class formats to accommodate varying fitness levels, abilities, and needs.

  • Demonstrate proper exercise techniques and provide clear, accurate instruction throughout each class.

  • Maintain familiarity with current fitness trends and best practices relevant to group exercise instruction.

  • Follow all branch safety protocols and respond appropriately to emergency situations.

Administration

  • Select and use appropriate, motivating music that aligns with class format and YMCA standards.

  • Maintain required certifications, tracked in Club Connect.

  • Support branch special events, promotional activities, and community programs as needed.

  • Participate in required trainings, meetings, and professional development sessions.

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • Experience leading fitness classes.

  • Ability to relate to and work with people of diverse backgrounds.

  • Current CPR or AED certifications.

  • Current National Group Exercise certifications (ACE, ACSM, AFAA, or YMCA).

  • Excellent customer service and hospitality skills.

  • Must be available to work flexible hours, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, and/or weekends.
