Jazmin's Story

TEENS TAKE THE CITY

I joined Teens Take the City because I wanted to spend more time with a friend—but what I found was so much more. The Y gave me a place to grow, to speak up, and to be part of something meaningful.

Coming from an immigrant family, I’ve seen the strength and struggle behind every story. My dad came to the U.S. as a teenager to help support his family, and I carry that with me. I want people to understand that immigrants are people, just like anyone else, looking for a better life.

Through TTC, I’ve learned how to advocate for others and speak out about what matters—mental health, education, equality. It’s helped me find confidence and community in a world that often feels judgmental and divided.

One day, I hope to create a better future not just for myself, but for my family—especially my dad. I want to work hard, but I also want to live fully and leave a legacy of empathy, strength, and open-mindedness.

At the Y, I found a space where I could be heard. And now, I’m learning how to use that voice to help others feel seen, too.
