Josiah & Marie's Story "Once an east side kid, always an east side kid."VANDERBILT YMCAY ROWE SCHOLARS, TEEN PROGRAMSThe Vanderbilt Y has played a big part in shaping who we are today. From SYEP and Rowe Scholars to Leaders Club, the Y has given us opportunities to grow as leaders, develop real-world skills, and discover what we’re capable of.What started as just a summer job turned into something much more. Through the Y, we’ve held internships, explored careers, and learned how to show up confidently—in the workplace, in school, and in our communities. We’ve been encouraged to apply for new roles, speak out in group settings, and step into leadership positions we never imagined ourselves in before.The staff at Vanderbilt Y believed in us even when we were unsure of ourselves. They pushed us to keep going, take up space, and trust that we had something to offer. Because of their support, we’ve not only built job experience—we’ve also built confidence, friendships, and a strong sense of purpose.At the Y, we learned that growth doesn’t happen by accident. It happens when someone gives you a chance—and reminds you that you’re ready for it.
