The YMCA of Greater New York is here for all New Yorkers — to empower youth, improve health, and strengthen community. Founded in 1852, today the Y serves a diverse population of more than half a million New Yorkers who learn, grow, and thrive through programs and services at our 24 branches. Community is the cornerstone of the Y. Together, we connect active, engaged New Yorkers to build stronger communities.

To help fulfill our mission, we cultivate a culture of learning, leading, and collaboration to enhance community impact. Through our talented staff and “LEAP” career framework (Leadership, Empowerment, Accountability, Personal Growth), we are committed to a people-first approach that fosters trust, inclusion, growth, and development for all.

The Staten Island Broadway YMCA is seeking a Teen Director. Under the supervision of the Youth & Family Director, the Teen Director will lead the management and implementation of all teen programs at the branch. Position responsibilities include staff management, program development, program deliverables, budgeting, outreach, recruitment, and key community partnerships such as local schools. The impact of teen programs will be carefully measured and monitored for continuous improvement. Teen programs take place during the school year, concurrent with the school day, after school hours, and on Saturday evenings. Teen programs also take place during the summer on Saturday evenings. The Teen Coordinator will supervise all teen travel, including overnight and multi-day trips.

Program Portfolio may include: Y Saturday Night Lights (SNL), Y Scholars, Teens Take the City (TTC), Rowe Scholars, Leaders Club, Teen Center, and any newly developed programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, select, develop, train, and supervise staff.

  • Responsible for supervising and supporting staff with implementing diverse teen programming, complete with robust data tracking, while maximizing all funded contracts.

  • Manage administrative data entry in various systems, including Youth Service.NET, AS400, coordinate participant paperwork, conduct program surveys, and all other requirements outlined by City agencies and in the YMCA’s Teen Standards.

  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of participants in the program by providing close supervision of all activities.

  • Plan, coordinate, and implement program registration, programming, workshops, and special events with support from part-time Teen Advisors.

  • Directly facilitate teen programming in lieu of the Teen Advisor when a position is vacant.

  • Ensure that programming is led with a focus on Social Emotional Learning and skill development.

  • Lead the marketing and distribution of program information and help to compile program statistics.

  • Develop, implement, and monitor the program budget to meet fiscal objectives.

  • Establish and maintain links with service providers in various settings, including other CBOs, schools, and partnerships.

  • Attend designated meetings, training sessions, and special events related to teen programming.

  • Act as the liaison to the YMCA of Greater New York regarding teen issues.

  • Provide support to the Youth & Family Director regarding staff management and scheduling.

  • Manage adolescent behavior with respect, maturity, compassion, and encouragement.

  • Create and support an environment that is diverse, culturally sensitive, and relevant to the needs of teens.

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience required. A degree in Education or Social Work is desired.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with teens/youth and planning activities.

  • One (1) to two (2) years of experience supervising community-based youth programs and experience developing programs.

  • Must be at least 21 years of age or older.

  • CPR, First Aid, or AED trainer preferred.

  • Knowledge of the development and administration of youth programs, supervision, and contract management required.
