YMCA of Greater New York Celebrates 85 Rowe Scholars Program Graduates on College Decision Day 25 June 2025 On Friday, June 20, the YMCA of Greater New York hosted its 2025 College Decision Day at Capital Group’s office in New York City, celebrating 85 YMCA Rowe Scholar teens and their pursuit of post-secondary success and higher education. The YMCA’s Rowe Scholars program is a comprehensive college and career access program offered at no cost to New York City teens throughout the five boroughs. This year, the Rowe Scholars program provided more than $75,000 in scholarships.At the event, students were joined by their family and Y staff as they announced the colleges they have committed to attending, such as SUNY Albany, Brooklyn College, Temple University, Syracuse University, Fordham University, Northeastern University, Hunter College, and the University of Pittsburgh.“The YMCA Rowe Scholars program empowers students to identify their higher education goals and dreams – and make them reality,” said Sharon Greenberger, President and CEO, YMCA of Greater New York. “We are immensely proud of our scholars, and are honored to celebrate their achievements alongside them and their families. The future is bright for every single one of these students, and we look forward to witnessing and celebrating all that they achieve.”“The YMCA and Rowe Scholars Program have truly helped me grow more confident in my abilities and what I can achieve,” said graduating Rowe Scholar, Omar Perez. “From organizing career events to offering personalized academic and application support, the Y’s investment in my education has been invaluable in preparing me for this next chapter. I’m deeply grateful to everyone who has supported me throughout my high school journey – especially my Rowe Scholars family – and I will carry their wisdom and encouragement with me as I head to Brooklyn College.”The Rowe Scholars program has served more than 1,200 public and charter school students enrolled in grades 9-12 since 2009, offering continued support throughout college and beyond. Rowe Scholars receive curriculum-based workshops, college tours, SAT/ACT test prep, career counseling and financial literacy. In 2024, 95% of Rowe Scholars graduated from high school (compared to a citywide average of 83%) and 83% of Rowe Scholars matriculated into college.Learn more about the Rowe Scholars program.
