Health, Well-Being & Fitnessspin class

  • Group Exercise Classes — The Y offers a wide variety of classes from aerobics to yoga to zumba which are free with membership. Explore classes by checking out the program guide and schedules at your local Y or by browsing all group exercise classes.
  • Personal Training — Looking for a new challenge or need some additional motivation? Our trainers will design a program that will help you achieve your goals.
  • Water Activities — Water exercise, adult swim lessons and adapted exercise are some of the water-based activities you’ll find at the Y where we believe if you can do it on land, you can do it in the water!
  • Y Fit Start  — In this 12 week program, you'll meet with a Y Fit Start Coach four times to help you develop a personal fitness plan.

Sports & Recreation adult basketball

  • Team Sports — Are you the competitive type? Looking to join a team of adults with a shared passion for basketball, baseball or volleyball? Join a team at your local Y.
  • Dance — The Y offers adult dance programs in African, ballet, capoeira, contemporary, jazz, salsa, ballroom and tap at specific branches. Join a dance class today and get your toes tapping.
  • Running & Walking — Lace up your jogging shoes and get ready to hit the pavement. The Y offers classes to help you hone your running technique and to get you moving in the right direction.
  • Private Lessons — Need a little one-on-one coaching in a specific sport – tennis, basketball etc.? A Y certified trainer and can help you improve your athletic ability and get fit.

  • Arts & Humanities — Writing, drawing, painting, and pottery are all offered at the West Side YMCA along with other exciting arts programming. Explore visual arts or literary arts classes.
  • Computer Classes — Need a little help learning how to use a computer? Learn the basics of computers at the Y with a expert.

Health Appraisals/Screeningshealthy groceries

  • Nutritional Counseling — Some Y branches offer one-on-one nutritional counseling to help you maintain a healthy diet.
  • LIVESTRONG at the YMCA — Participants work with Y staff trained in supportive cancer care to achieve their goals, such as building strength; increasing flexibility and endurance; and improving confidence and self-esteem.

New American Initiative/ESOL adults studying

The Y is committed to serving the immigrant population of the City, and, in response to their needs, has opened New Americans Welcome Centers to help immigrants achieve literacy, cultural competence, and self-sufficiency. Learn more

English Language and Employment Services for Adult Immigrants and Refugees (ELESAIR)

ELESAIR is a one-stop assistance center where immigrant adults with little means and limited English skills can obtain the full range of services - instructional, vocational, placement and support - so essential to their prospects as New Yorkers. Learn more
