Finding a Home Away from Home: The Pflum's Story
My family basically lives at the YMCA. We started coming about a decade ago, when I signed up our oldest for preschool. That really opened the door to so many other amazing things.
"My family basically lives at the YMCA. We started coming a decade ago for preschool and sent all four kids. Everything you could possibly do, we do it. Basketball, swimming, summer camp, ballet, the gym. The best part is the people. The Y gave us a community. Our children grew up here. I really can’t say enough about the Y." - Mary Pflum |
We play basketball and tennis. Our four children have taken swimming lessons and cooking classes and ballet. They go to summer camp, arts camp, and drama class. We have birthday parties and Halloween parties at the Y. All children ended up going to preschool here. And it’s not just the kids. I took a writing class where I discovered a new passion I didn’t know I had. My husband and I work out together, and the kids can come too. Everything you could possibly do at the Y, we do it.
The best part is the people. Without the Y, we might not have stayed in New York City. The Y gave us a sense of community. All our friends are here. Our children grew up here. They’ve learned so many skills. I really can’t say enough about the Y.
