As part of our mission to strengthen community, the Y promotes civic engagement in various forms. Each year we partner with community organizations for National Voter Registration Day and to host voter registration and education at events like Healthy Kids Day. In addition to ongoing teen programming such as Teens Take the City, we have hosted special civic engagement forums for teens. Our New Americans Initiative provides citizenship preparation and has hosted citizenship drives. The Y has also worked with partners to host multilingual webinars on Ranked Choice Voting, and we engaged in extensive outreach around the 2020 Census.


 
2026 Elections

In 2026, New Yorkers will vote in elections that help shape leadership at the federal, state, and city level. These elections will impact decisions related to housing, education, public safety, transportation, parks, youth programs, and more.

 

November General Election  

The General Election is when all eligible voters can vote for the candidates who will hold office. New Yorkers may also vote on ballot proposals that address issues affecting the city or state.

Early Voting

The Y will host early voting for the General Election at the Northeast Bronx, Park Slope Amory, and Rockaway branches. Early voting will likely follow the following schedule:

  • Saturday, October 24, 2026: 9 AM - 5 PM
  • Sunday, October 25, 2026: 9 AM - 5 PM
  • Monday, October 26, 2026: 9 AM - 5 PM
  • Tuesday, October 27, 2026: 10 AM - 8 PM
  • Wednesday, October 28, 2026: 10 AM - 8 PM
  • Thursday, October 29, 2026: 9 AM - 5 PM
  • Friday, October 30, 2026: 8 AM - 4 PM
  • Saturday, October 31, 2026: 9 AM - 5 PM
  • Sunday, November 1, 2026: 9 AM - 5 PM

Several YMCA branches will serve as Election Day polling sites on Tuesday, November 3, from 6 AM to 9 PM. Check back closer to the election for the exact locations.
