Citywide Impact with Citi Foundation

Citi volunteers in 2025

Citi and the Citi Foundation and for the incredible dedication of Citi volunteers. This year, over 50 Citi volunteers supported the Y through various volunteer initiatives to make a meaningful difference across our Y communities.

In January, Citi colleagues led two multilingual financial literacy workshops at the Flatbush YMCA as part of our New Americans Initiative (NAI). Volunteers sought to equip families with essential tools to achieve their budgeting, saving, and credit goals. Having bilingual instructors was especially meaningful for participants—many of whom are newly arrived New Yorkers navigating complex systems in a new language. By offering guidance in English, French, and Haitian Creole, Citi volunteers ensured that every participant could fully understand the material, ask questions with confidence, and feel seen and supported. This culturally responsive approach made the workshops not just informative, but truly accessible and supportive. Thanks to dedicated Citi volunteers, NAI participants received financial education that met them where they are and honored their linguistic and cultural identities.

During Financial Literacy Month this April, Citi offered an exciting opportunity for our middle schoolers as part of the American Bankers Association Foundation’s Teach Children to Save initiative. Citi volunteers provided financial education for middle schoolers at Citi Field through an engaging, youth-friendly workshop that taught them about budgeting, saving, and money management. And yes, the students got to enjoy a Mets vs. Phillies game afterwards with their parents and guardians!

In July, twenty Citi volunteers joined us at our Y Community Markets, helping distribute fresh produce and essential goods to local families and individuals experiencing food insecurity. Volunteers assisted with distribution, quality checks, and clean-up efforts to ensure neighbors received high-quality, culturally relevant foods with dignity and care.

This giving season, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Citi for their collaboration and investment in our youth and families. We look forward to continuing this work and serving more NYC neighbors—together.

A BIG GIVING TUESDAY WIN, THANKS TO YOU!

We did it! Thanks to your generosity this Giving Tuesday, we raised over $400,000 to support our neighbors across New York City. That means more families fed, more children safe in childcare, and more students on the path to graduation. And thanks to over 1,400 donations, we unlocked a $50,000 matching gift to amplify our collective impact.

None of this would be possible without you. Thank you for choosing the Y this giving season, and throughout the year, to make a lasting impact for those who need it most. We look forward to sharing the impact of your generosity in the new year.

Missed us on Giving Tuesday? There's still time to support your neighbors and maximize your impact. Give today at ymcanyc.org/give.

VIDA Celebrates 10 Years of Uplifting Hispanic Communities

Women pose excitedly at the 2025 VIDA Awards.

Last month, we celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Visionaries Inspiring Dreams & Ambition (VIDA) Awards & Reception initiative at the historic 48 Wall Street. What began as a way to honor excellence in the Hispanic community has grown into a powerful platform that uplifts youth and strengthens diverse communities across New York City.

We were proud to honor outstanding leaders, Dr. Helen Arteaga-Landaverde, Lina Cruz, and Sandra Campos. Their dedication, service, and achievements reflect the very best of our community. Their stories—and the stories of our scholarship recipients—remind us why this work matters and how your support creates lasting impact.

As we look toward the next decade, we invite you to join us in supporting and ensuring that more students can access college, build confidence, and pursue their ambitions. If you’d like to make a contribution to advance the VIDA Initiative, visit our event page.

We look forward to celebrating and supporting the Hispanic community year-round, and we’re grateful to do it with you.
