Latest Updates as of June 15, 2021

On June 15, Governor Cuomo announced that New York State has achieved the 70% adult vaccination threshold and that most COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted based on data from the CDC.

This is exciting news, and as the City continues to reopen, we are working through what this means for our branches. We will be sharing information regarding our updated guidelines in the coming days but in the meantime, our present health and safety protocols remain in effect.

Masks Indoors:

Effective June 15th, fully vaccinated individuals are no longer required to wear a mask while working out at YMCA of Greater New York facilities. Individuals who are not fully vaccinated are expected to wear a mask and follow mask requirements per CDC and NY state and city guidelines. We will continue to have participants in childcare, camp, transitional housing, and counseling services wear masks as required by CDC and New York State Guidelines.  All members, participants and guests are welcome to continue wearing a mask if they feel more comfortable doing so.

Childcare & Camp:

Guidance on children and masks remain the same for camp and school settings in New York City. All children over the age of two are required to wear a face covering/mask while in our childcare programs.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 19

Capacity Limitations

As of Wednesday, May 19, capacity restrictions have been lifted by New York State. As a result, we will no longer be monitoring our facilities for capacity limitations, except for childcare programs. However, we will continue with six-foot social distancing in all Y branches, as required by government guidelines, and have arranged our facilities, classes, and equipment to accommodate this protocol.

MONDAY, MAY 24

Swim Lanes:

Effective Monday, May 24, we will allow two people per swim lane. We will continue to use our mobile app for swim lane reservations. Download the mobile app here

Outdoor Classes and Masks:

Beginning Monday, May 24, no masks will be required during outdoor classes. Masks will be required in common areas but once you get to your designated workout position, you may remove your mask for class. Please note, if you would like to enter the branch or use any other facilities, you will need to put your mask back on. If you prefer to continue to wear a mask during class, please feel free to do so.

FRIDAY, MAY 28

Starting Friday, May 28, we will re-open for member services on Fridays at our 10 re-opened membership service branches. Please check with your local branch for Friday's hours.

TUESDAY, JUNE 15

Masks Indoors:

  • If you’re sick, don’t come to the Y. Your temperature will be checked upon entry, and we’ll ask you to review and acknowledge a Health Declaration.

  • Bring your own mask, as well as a towel and filled water bottle. (Per state guidelines, bandanas, buffs, gaiters, and masks with vents are not acceptable face coverings.)

  • When inside Y facilities, wear your mask at all times and social distance when possible.

  • Wipe down your equipment before and after use, and wash your hands often.

  • Make a pool or group exercise reservation in advance using our mobile app or calling the branch.

What the Y is Doing

Following all government guidelines, we are doing everything we can to create a welcoming and clean environment at the Y.

  • We’re rigorously cleaning and disinfecting our facilities and equipment prior to opening and throughout the day.

  • We’re continuing with social six-foot social distancing in all Y branches, as required by government guidelines, and have arranged our facilities, classes, and equipment to accommodate this protocol
