At the Y, teens can work on leadership skills, prep for college, play a sport, and give back through programs designed for them. We’re committed to empowering youth around New York City, and many of our teen programs are free for qualified participants.
In addition to our programming, the Teen Center at the Broadway Y also provides young people with a safe space to socialize, seek support, and participate in activities.
Teen Center membership is free with active program participation. Programs run September-June. For more information on how to sign up and any program questions, stop by the Front Desk.
Education, Leadership, and College Prep
Ages 11-17 years
Tuesdays 4-6 PM
This program provides club members with opportunities for leadership training, personal growth, community service, and social development. Young people meet on a weekly basis in a small group of peers and advisors to map out career and educational goals, seek information, and share experiences related to self-improvement.
Ages 11-17 years
Fridays 7-9:30 PM
Teen Center is a safe place where teens have the opportunity to engage in meaningful activities that allow them to develop socially, physically and academically. Activities include: sports, nutrition, arts, fitness, swim, STEM and special guest presentations.
Teen Center is FREE and typically runs three Fridays each month, September to June. Pre-registration required. Check the Member Service Desk for upcoming dates.
Ages 11-17 years
Tuesdays 6-7 PM
By working alongside local political leaders, teens have the chance to see how political decisions are made, and learn how to become effective agents of change. Writing legal memoranda, resolutions, and press releases gives teens hands on experience, and exposure to how the democratic process impacts NYC communities.
YMCA Global Teens is a leadership development and service learning program that engages teens in a year-long empowering international experience culminating with a summer service abroad experience.
Swim & Sports
The fitness center is available to teen members ages 12-17 years of age, under the following conditions:
- Teens must complete a 60-minute orientation prior to using the fitness areas.
- Teens must have a parental consent forms on file to utilize the facility.
- Teens must present their ID cards and course completion cards to floor trainer on duty prior to working out.
- Teens may not bring guest under the age of 18 into the facility.
- No exceptions to these policies will made. We thank for you cooperation.
Teens may use the fitness areas during the following designated times only:
- Mondays: Friday 3-6:30 PM
- Fridays: 7-9:30 PM
- Saturdays and Sundays: 1-6:30 PM
Teens can learn to play a sport, develop make new friends, and become empowered in youth sports programs such as volleyball, track and Tae Kwon Do. Sports programs are not part of the Teen Center.
Arts & Education
Young artists will develop their individual artistic expressions by getting their hands dirty and learning the art of Paper Mache! No experience is needed and participants will get to take home their fun creations at the end of the session.
The Broadway YMCA offers an 8-week SAT/PSAT Test Prep Class that is compiled of test strategies, practice questions and practice tests. This class is designed to provide comprehensive prep materials to help participants on all levels.
Ages 7-17 years
Your child will learn decision making, planning skills and confidence as they create a hot cooked meal using fresh ingredients. Incorporating cleanliness in the kitchen, cutting skills, as well as how to wash meats and vegetables, set the table, and serve a meal in proper portions-this class is sure to be a hit! At the end of the 8-week session, participants will receive a recipe book reflecting what they have learned.
YMCA teen camps in all five boroughs are designed to immerse campers in fun activities that keep them active, learning, and engaged during the summer months. Teen campers participate in hands-on programming geared towards building self-confidence as well as activities designed to engage teens in developing educational and career goals. Campers go on field trips, and participate in swimming, dancing, singing, sports and more!
Teens can participate in traditional sleepaway camps, adventure camps, and sports camps at YMCA Camp in Huguenot, New York, located 86 miles northwest of NYC between the Delaware Water Gap and the Catskill Mountains.
