The McBurney YMCA is seeking a qualified individual who, under the supervision of the Program Director, the will be responsible for the organization and delivery of quality programs, catering to teens. The Teen Advisor will monitor and supervise all teen services and programs, including service learning, community development, leadership, college readiness and outreach.  In addition, they will be responsible for advertising and recruiting participants, ensuring proper documentation, teen reports, and meeting program goals. Hours: Monday – Thursday 10:00am – 4:00pm, Tuesday 4:00pm -5:30pm and Friday 5:30pm – 9:30pm. Must be available to attend weekend and overnight trips.


  • Ensure the health, safety and well-being of participants in the program, by providing close supervision of all activities.
  • Instruct and mentor teen participants.
  • Acts as the liaison to YMCA of Greater New York in regards to teen issues.
  • Plan, prepare and facilitate lesson plans for Teens Take the City, Y Scholars, Leaders Club and Teen Center.
  • Facilitate and implement Teens Take the City, Leaders Club, Y Scholars and Teen Center program curricula.
  • Work with the Program Director to organize, prepare and submit teen quarterly reports in a timely manner.
  • Provide support with teen registration and audit compliance.
  • Develop positive relationships with the participants, their friends and family members.
  • Ensure that all participants sign in and sign out on a daily basis, and that surveys, applications and other documentation are returned.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of program space during all activities.
  • Work with staff to implement recreational and academic teen programs.
  • Assist with administrative data entry, coordination of participant paperwork and management of teen participant portfolios.
  • Assist in fund development endeavors for the Youth & Family Department.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of program space during all activities.
  • Have a thorough knowledge of branch emergency procedures and take appropriate actions for emergency situations on-site & during fieldtrips.
  • Adhere to all Department of Health, Department of Youth and Community Development and YMCA of Greater New York standards.
  • Create an environment that is diverse, culturally sensitive and relevant to the needs of teens.
  • Actively participate in designated meetings, training sessions and special events.


  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s Degree (or currently working on degree) preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with adolescents.
  • Experience teaching and facilitating trainings on issues related to teens.
  • Must be able to manage adolescent behavior with respect, maturity, compassion and encouragement.
  • General knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of Access, Adobe PageMaker and Photoshop preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
