The Association Office of the YMCA is seeking a Public Affairs Intern who will support the administrative work of the Public Affairs Department. The Public Affairs Intern will assist with various projects as they grow within the department.
You are a motivated person with a BA / BS degree and a strong interest in Public Policy work. You are able to use a PC and copy machine with minimal instruction and knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, including Word and Excel. You are aligned with the Y’s mission and four core values: honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility.
As Public Affairs Intern you will:
Update database and contact information, including elected officials, community boards, and community organizations.
Schedule meetings and site visits.
Provide event support, including invitations, follow-up calls, and staffing events.
Coordinate mailings with administrative staff.
Provide general administrative support such as filing, copying, and organizing.
The internship will begin in late January 2020 and end in late June 2020. The exact dates and work schedule are flexible, provided you can work approximately 20 hours in the office each week.
This internship will enable you to earn ($20/hour) while you learn, getting a first-hand look at the advocacy work of a major nonprofit organization working in areas such as adult education for new Americans, afterschool programming, substance abuse prevention/treatment, and more. You’ll build your resume while working as part of a lively team with a long history of public policy work.
